about

Ghetto Lounge is pleased to announce the first release of a series of 7inch reggae singles – introducing you to a creation of international talented artists based in East London!

Clapper Priest was born and raised in Hackney with a Jamaican family who moved to the UK in the 50’s. He started his career as MC/deejay on London sound system reggae scene in the early 80’s. He was then involved in the reggae band “One Style MDV” to perform for the Rock Against Racism campaign that supported the artists such as Burning Spear, Gregory Issacs and Winston Reedy. The band toured with Joe Strummer for his Rock Against the Rich tour in 1988. In the 90’s he became a solo artist and subsequently toured with various DJs and sound systems in France, Spain and Japan. In 2008 he collaborated and toured in Israel with Israeli Dubstep producer Kalbata and released Londinium/Solution EP from Soul Jazz records.

Rasta Far Out was his first single, originally produced by Horace Truebridge in the early 90s, and was written as a futuristic journey looking back at things from a Rasta perspective. Koichi Sakai, a London based Japanese producer and DJ who regularly promotes Reggae, Afrobeat and Tropical music in East London’s club scene, has recently reworked this classic tune to produce a new sound of dancehall/ragga MC and baseline with a ska/rock steady melody and brass section. This mix of styles has constructed a unique and original blend of reggae music for people to mash up the dance floor!
