Eko means Lagos, Ile means home in Yoruban language, “Eko Ile” on the A side is the cover tune from the Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti that is sung by London based Nigerian artist Adesose Wallece who is widely recognized as not only master drummer but also painter and philosopher. This version was arranged and produced by DJ Koichi Sakai, who saw Adesose Wallece was singing and playing Eko Ile at Sunday Jam session in East London’s world music mecca Passing Clouds. On the B side, hypnotic trance tune “Chabakrou” is the music from Morocco in Gnawa tradition that sung by London’s leading Gnawa musician Simo Lagnawi. Lagnawi plays gimbri, three strings bass lute made of camel and goat’s skin used by Gnawa musicians. Gnawa is traditional and shamanism culture based in Sahara desert in Morocco and Algeria, although Gnawa people were originated from ancient Ghanan empire. Music was also brought from West to North Africa and this is the version of traditional Gnawa music and Ghanan master djembe player Afla Sackey’s collaboration that is also produced by Koichi Sakai.

This is very interesting and cultural recording of African music in 21st century that are made from vibrant world music scene in Hackney, East London. Must item for collectors.
